Passive safety in MotoGP : Safety at 300 Km/h

Passive safety in MotoGP is a key element in the protection of motorcycle riders who only have their clothing to avoid the so-feared injuries.
Seat belt, airbag, lateral bars, ergonomic seat… there are none of these safety elements, present in any of today’s cars, on a motorcycle, and much less on a racing one. Because of that, the good working order of a bike, the skill of the rider and their own very advanced equipment replace all the elements that a car provides to protect the driver in case of an accident.
It is for that reason that the Motorcycle World Championship riders take special care of all their clothing to the smallest detail to prevent injuries in case of a fall. Helmet, gloves, boots, race leathers, back protection, elbow pads, knee pads…all of which are highly developed elements, made with the latest technology and fitted to each rider so that in case of a fall, is protected from high speed impacts.
The weight, the materials continue to become more resistant and lighter, the flexibility, comfort, breathability and other details, some of which may seem insignificant to us, became of vital importance when designing a protective element, whether it is gloves, boots, race leathers, helmet or other components.

Dani Pedrosa’s 2010 season so far

Dani Pedrosa’s 2010 season so far

Monday, 02 August 2010
The Repsol Honda rider has had highs and lows packed into his first nine races, with the nature of his better results hinting at his capacity to be the main challenger to Jorge Lorenzo in the battle for this year’s title.

Dani Pedrosa’s 2010 season so far…
Dani Pedrosa’s steady progress towards consistent results this season has placed the Spaniard second in the Championship standings at the halfway point in the season, where at 138 points he currently sits 72 off leader Jorge Lorenzo. The first nine rounds have produced some fantastic results for the Repsol Honda rider who has so far stood on the podium five times, winning twice, and his finer outcomes have been accompanied by some frustrations too.
The campaign got off to an indifferent start for Pedrosa with seventh in Qatar, where he battled with set-up issues that had carried over from pre-season. Undeterred however he remained focused and the following round at Jerez produced a solid reward, as he took pole position and battled with Lorenzo for the victory before finishing second.
The inconsistency which was to prove Pedrosa’s main obstacle in the early part of the season meant that he would place fifth at Le Mans as he lost out on a podium finish on the final lap in his 150th GP start. Another strong response came though and this time it was a victory, from pole position, at Mugello as the intense work put in by the 24 year-old and his team paid off.
A difficult next round at Silverstone followed where Pedrosa crashed in qualifying and placed eighth in the race, but a succession of constant results that produced the continuity he had been striving for then poured forth. Second place at Assen from seventh on the grid and then second in his home race at Catalunya paved the way to a second win of 2010 at Sachsenring, where Pedrosa won a fight with Lorenzo for victory.
The first half of the campaign was rounded off with a first DNF of the season as Pedrosa crashed out at Laguna Seca whilst leading the race, but he remained optimistic despite the setback as he aims to continue harnessing the aspects of his performance that have delivered him tastes of victory already.

2010 Dani Pedrosa Wins MotoGP, Full Results – Mugello 2010Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Dani Pedrosa
A dominate performance from Dani Pedrosa saw him take the win as he lead from start to finish. He finished the race from pole, got the fastest lap, broke the circuit record and lead start-to-finish.
Once second place was sorted out between Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo the big battle was for fourth between Marco Melandri, Randy De Puniet, Casey Stoner with Ben Spies bringing up the rear.
The ding-dong battle saw Stoner in fourth, Spies in fourth, Melandri and De Puniet all in fourth place at some point over the race. By the half-way point it was mainly down to De Puniet and Melandri constantly overtaking each other with Stoner and Spies watching on.
Lorenzo didn’t initially gap Dovizioso but slowly eeked out a lead over the course of the race but it never really got over one second.
Colin Edwards had a nightmare, depsite a great qualifying and before the race saying he thought things were good he went backwards quickly and was in last for the majority of the race.
In an amazing final lap De Puniet was in fourth place, only to have Melandri and Stoner get past. Stoner, having nothing to lose, then stuffed it down the inside to get past Melandri. Melandri almost instantly hit straight back, Stoner then got past again and managed to hold it to take fourth place.
A fantastic race.
